The 2014 Susan Fund Scholarship Reception honored 26 college students who are all cancer survivors.  The CT Challenge Center for Survivorship in Southport hosted the event for the second year.  This year’s program featured two speakers and one singing performance by former recipient, Christina Carpanzano.  She began the program with a song entitled “The Physician” from the Cole Porter musical Nymph Errant.  Her song set the stage for David Lloyd, Susan’s brother, who spoke about his memories of Susan.  The final speaker was four time recipient, Brooke Lorentz.  Brooke did have a speech ready but instead after listening to David, spoke from her heart in a very honest and touching way about her cancer experience.  Her illness was recent and her memories of her reactions to the diagnosis and treatments were vivid.  She said that finding The Susan Fund gave her hope to go on with her life and her education.  The Susan Fund respects the courage of its recipients and honors these cancer survivors  as heroic examples of strength and vision.  The awards reception affirmed again that The Susan Fund is the living testament of the legacy of the life of Susan Lloyd.
