Nathaniel Smit
Nate will be a freshman this fall at Deans College. He plans to major in Psychology and hopes to become a social worker or counselor. Nate would like to use his experiences as a cancer survivor to help others in similar circumstances. During his senior year in high school, Nate enjoyed working as a fourth grade teacher‘s assistant. His volunteering roles include working at High-Quality Home Therapy, which is a center that provides physical, occupational, speech, and behavioral therapy. He is also a ―puppy socializer‖ for Guiding Eyes for the Blind. Nate‘s reference letter says that ―He is a remarkably well-rounded individual, with a kind heart, a scholarly attitude, and leadership qualities that his peers look up to.‖ This is Nate‘s first Susan Fund scholarship.
