Alexia describes herself as a “self-driven perfectionist.” She was looking forward to finishing her senior year at Roxbury High School only to have it de-railed by COVID-19. Alexia is no stranger to adversity. Living with avascular necrosis, a degenerative bone condition, she has been long been resolute. When she broke her hip in 7 th grade during her treatment, she still made the most she could out of her summer. Whether it was floating in her aunt’s backyard pool or getting wheeled around Aruba in a wheelchair, she made lemonade out of lemons. Alexia plans on continuing to do that at UPenn this fall, whether it’s online or in person. She is planning to double major in biology and political science and go on to attend medical school. Alexia would like to specialize in pediatric oncology. This is her first Susan Fund scholarship.
